Container gardening is a favorite activity of the city inhabitants. It is the art of growing indoor plants in a container to enhance the beauty of your garden, home and natural surroundings. Success in any field depends on proper planning. In order to grow healthy, sustainable plants in our area, you should draw a systematic plan by taking into account the factors which would be most suitable to your apartment. The fault lays with the city dwellers. The prime necessity for the healthy growth of plants is sunlight. You should place the pots in the spaces where sunlight can reach. Most of the indoor plants need only limited sunlight for growth. So you will have to make additional effort by alternatively shifting the containers, otherwise, it will not be possible to maintain them, resulting in wasteful expenditure. Some plants need a lot of sunlight. If the container garden area does not get ample sunlight, you should avoid the risk of planting such plants. You should choose the right type of plants and place them in the appropriate place according to their needs, in proper sunlight. Also there are some plants and flowers which look attractive, but cannot grow properly indoors. So, keeping this in mind, you should think twice before investing on these plants. For proper maintenance of your plants it is important to use a perfect soil mixture which meets the requirements of your plants. You should make sure to choose the soil that dries up quickly, but still retains moisture. Likewise, you should be careful in choosing the right fertilizer and in making the correct judgment for spraying them on the plants. However, the fertilizer should not be used as a solution to all plant related problems. If you are new in the field of gardening, but eager to grow your own vegetables and fruits in containers, it is preferable to start off with a solidly built herb garden. Growing herbs and maintaining them is very easy. Herbs benefit you by providing fresh scented leaves which may be used in cooking. The finest herbs such as mint, basil, chives, parsley and garlic require sufficient sunlight and proper watering. But these plants do not require much maintenance. Once you have learnt the skill of container gardening, you can next experiment with fruits and vegetables. . Hence, if you wish to maintain your plants properly and for a long time, it is important for you to make the right choice of containers as the growth of the plants will depend on the size of the containers.
